If you take a minute to check out this website you will see that many of the libraries in Western Colorado are listing their book sales. Even our own Pat Conway has done so! How about listing your branches book sale on this free website - it appears to be well used and could bring additional visitors and buyers to your library. They also allow entry for on-going book sales such as New Castle’s.

Let me know what you think,

Remember to use the Excel program to complete the form. Either Rebecca or myself can help you with any questions you may have about completing the form.

I ran across this website recently and thought it might be a good collection development tool for your music collections.

What is CD HotList and why do you do it?

CD Hotlist (For Librarians)

CD HotList Editor Rick Anderson is a librarian and a music critic. In early 1999 it occurred to him that his colleagues in the library profession might like to hear about some of the cooler titles that he sees and hears each month. CD HotList was designed basically as a “heads-up” for interested librarians, a way of saying “Here’s some cool stuff you might want to consider for your collections.” After doing it by himself for a year he invited some other music librarians to pitch in as well. He and the rest of the reviewing team present the information in a way that facilitates ordering. You’ll notice that each entry includes complete catalog information as well as a capsule review; you can print out each monthly issue, circle the items you want and hand the printout to your ordering staff, who will (in theory) rise up and call your name blessed for providing them with such complete and legible information.

Here are two websites I just learned about that can help you find authors to speak at your libraries - they are free but you have to sign up. Please let me know how they work for you.

Mary Ellen Bates is the principal of Bates Information Services, a research and consulting business based in Boulder, Colorado. She has written another one of her excellent articles on how to find valid information on the web. This website is an excellent source of information and I think you will find this article useful in helping patrons. I would use this in addition to our database EbscoHost.

NEW YORK (AP) — E.L. Doctorow’s “The March,” his acclaimed story of Gen. William Tecumseh Sherman’s ruthless Civil War campaign, received yet another literary honor Friday night, winning the National Book Critics Circle prize for fiction…. Doctorow’s novel, the rare work of American fiction last year to attract both strong sales and widespread praise, has already won the PEN/Faulkner prize and was a finalist for the National Book Award. It stands a strong chance of bringing the author his first Pulitzer Prize in a 45-year career that includes “Ragtime,” “World’s Fair” and “Loon Lake.”
